Be Ready Utah at the Utah State Fair

Be Ready Utah at the Utah State Fair

National Preparedness Month Continues Through September

WHAT:
Many Utah families have experienced emergencies and disasters with flooding, wildfires, power outages and severe weather. These unfortunate events often happen suddenly so it’s important to plan before the next emergency or disaster happens.

Be Ready Utah’s exhibit area at the Utah State Fair this weekend focuses on helping Utahns make small preparations for emergencies such as a communication plan and an emergency supply kit. Several local public and private organizations have teamed up with Be Ready Utah’s exhibit to help Utahns become better prepared during National Preparedness Month.

WHEN:
Thurs. Sept. 9 – Mon. Sept. 13
10 a.m. – 8 p.m.
Daily “Earthquake Lady” presentations: 12:30, 3:00 & 5:30
Look for Be Ready Utah materials at the Rodeo Friday, Saturday and Sunday

WHERE:
155 North 1000 W.
Salt Lake City
Be Ready Utah exhibit area
South east corner of the fair along North Temple, behind the Grand Building

STORY OP:
Multiple emergency preparedness booths from partner agencies within the Be Ready Utah exhibit area, the DPS Mobile Command Center, a readiness rally competition to put together emergency backpacks and the Be Ready Utah Bee Mascot.

Be Ready Utah is the State of Utah's emergency preparedness campaign managed by the Department of Public Safety’s Division of Homeland Security and under the direction of Lt. Governor Greg Bell. The campaign is designed as a bottom-up approach with the focus on an individual’s responsibility to prepare for various kinds of emergencies and disasters.

Peach Cobbler

Peach Cobbler

1 cube butter
4-5 fresh peaches covered with 1 cup sugar OR
1 quart bottled peaches drained
1 cup flour
3/4 cup sugar
2 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
3/4 cup milk
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Melt butter in 9X13 pan. Whisk all dry ingredients together in a bowl, add the milk and mix well. More the batter over the butter in the 9X13, DO NOT MIX. Then spoon the peaches over the batter, again DO NOT MIX. The cake will rise up over the peaches while baking. Bake for 50-55 minutes. If you want a thicker, more cakey cobbler use a smaller pan, like an 8x8 and adjust the baking time. Serve warm our of the oven with homemade vanilla or cinnamon ice cream.
Yum!
(This is also a great "store room" recipe. By using bottled peaches, powdered milk and powdered butter.)
